I’ll have to look into making a small batch.

It's super easy to do.
But cabbage is only cheap 2 times a year.
In late September early October before the frost when just picked.
And again around St. Paddy's Day.
We will do some again this March as I'm out.
BTW, it cans well, but also freezes well.
I put it into zip lock freezer bags.
Works well.

Well, a small batch in the works.

Following a recipe from Allrecipes, one of my favorite sources for cooking instructions.

Also have half a corned beef brisket in the crock pot for dinner.

Gonna be some good stuff.

You didn’t  waste time with the sauerkraut Bob. Let us know it comes out.
 Same with the brisket..

I certainly will. Had to move the corned beef to the Dutch oven. My little crock pot just doesn’t have the .......balls......to cook that fast enough. But it’s sure smelling great now. Did the cabbage separately.

We like corned beef, but really love Reuben sandwiches.

Probably have to buy some kraut for those for now. I’ll pick up some Jarlsberg Swiss, Russian dressing and rye tomorrow.

I guess that’s the real goal here.

When I ferment kraut it takes months.
It’s in the basement where it’s typically about 60F, so fermenting takes longer.
But it tastes way better than when I do it upstairs in the kitchen where it’s typically 70-72.
I’ve seen YouTube vids where people do it on the counter in just a few weeks.  I cannot believe it’s done in such short time.

But one thing is for sure.
Once you make your own, you will never eat store bought again.  Ever!!

Princess turned 13 today. Asked the new teenager what she wanted for her special dinner and she responded “meatloaf, cheesy smashed potatoes and corn.”

Can’t be mad at a young lady who comes up with that plate for the birthday meal

13....I remember around the time my “princess” turned 13. Let’s just say my son and I used to go hide.

Don’t get me wrong, she’ll always be my “princess”. But.....lord ....she was a trial.

Anyway, corned beef and cabbage.

My Bride finished it all......that’s a good sign.

Looks good RG, I certainly would have finished it too!

And thanks for the kind wishes. We actually had a covid safe party on the ice for her Sunday.

Yes, it sure has been challenging for the past few years. Covid isn’t helping any!!
