i live in southern maine and have heard the oldtimers call them calico bass before but for the most part we call them black crappie

Yeah, most of the people I know refer to them as calico's.  Calico or crappie, they still taste the same!  Mmmmmmm! ;D

I'm gonna try the flyrod today for some more of those beauties. C&R today....plenty in the freezer.

nice pile of crappies ya got there,their kinda hard to find in the summer down here,must be nice. the old timers called em calico bass  down here .whatever people call em their still delicious pan fried
