I may be there Friday.  Anybody else think it will be worth a trip?

I'm going to wait for the water to go down and warm a bit.  If I didn't have anything else to do I would be there practice casting and working on my knots!

Gotcha, like I said, ride along welcome.  Always looking for someone to beg fish from when I get skunked!  Here's a pic from a couple of years ago that reminds me of our weather today!  Rod was icing up real good that morning but we got 2 limits.

You should pick up a couple. Pink head, chartreuse tail.

Head further east to the sandusky. Less crowd, just as many fish. But they are actually catching good numbers.

Right in freemont.

Made the run over there today, fished 3hrs no fish. Did see a few fish on stringers but most went home empty. If not in rapids the current is slow, i would load up on 1/2oz weight. Good luck

Were you able to wade to Bluegrass Island ?  I have not seen that reported on the Maumee Tackle website.

Its an easy wade to bluegrass right now, the river is pretty low still.

Yes, island is open. I think water is to low. At the old bridge where I cross water only ankle deep.

I'll believe that when I see it myself, these so called weather people have been saying it's going to warm up since last week and they're still wrong! These lows at night are killing any warmup through the day. Hex

I just hope when it doesn't warm up too fast or I will have move and harvest some of my trout before they reach 18 inches. If I can keep feeding them until sometime in May I will be good. Feeding like gangbusters twice a day even with water in the upper 30's. Even have some bluegill and yellow perch coming up for the feed.

The cold mornings make it more interesting, but the fish are there.

I've been surprised to see bluegills feeding on the pellets I throw to the trout. Normally in this cold of water they want nothing to do with the dry pellets.

Thanks for the info on Bluegrass Is. fellas.  Heading that way next week, midweek.

Looks like a good warm up next week with rain. That should get a good push of fish to move up the river, and get the fish that are there to start feeding. I see a few limits but most singles. That tells me there aren’t that many fish in there yet. Good luck

Did well on the Maumee, should be a good weekend. Use bright colors if the suns out.

Weather was uncooperative and so were the Walleye, but I fished without being in a crowd, saw a few caught but it was spotty.

Headed there tomorrow, just hope to get one.  Might have to fish a new hole with all this water going downstream.

Got a 32 1/2 inch 14 lb. walleye in today to mount for a customer but it was caught this time of year last year. Was caught out in a boat on Erie using planer boards and stick baits fairly close to shore. There are some big ones out there!

Good luck to ya'll that get to make the Maumee trip.  I'm headed out of town for a week on spring break.  Maybe I can scrounge up a fish or two down there... but my heart is in the midwest with the spring walleye fishing.

Bluegrass island is closed. But, I like fishing the higher water there. Hopefully, the fish cooperate a little better.

Rough day of fishing yesterday on the river.  Started north of the Fort, spent a few hours working on my casting and knot tying.  No fish, for me or anyone else that I saw at that location.  At lunch in the parking lot at Orleans,  a few caught in a couple boats straight out from launch, still no fish on the bank from anyone.  Headed upstream to Jerome road and bingo, saw a few fish being caught and some on stringers.  My fishing partner ended with 2 and I had none.  I could barely get to the bottom using mono and 1 1/4 oz.  He was using fireline and was able to hold bottom with 3/4 oz.  Tuff fishing, will be better in a week.  First trip to the island will give up many limits!

Planning on heading to Maumee to fish the river from waders on Wednesday afternoon.  If anyone is interested in going along let me know.  I'm planning on leaving between 11 and 12.

Sure wish I could go Wed.  I committed to coaching my daughters lob-ball team this spring and that's going to wipe out my wed. evening fishing nights.  I'm sure wishing I can get over there soon.

Heading up early Friday morning also.  This next week or so is going to be the peak I think.  We'll see what this weather does after this heat wave!

I hate to say it but the weatherman is saying the heat wave will be short lived and we will go back into winter next week!   ::)

The river is full of fish. First cast until about 815 is best. Then there's a lull, and it picks back up around 3pm. That's been my first hand experience the last two days. Orelans park was busy, but upstream had much less people. I didn't see "everyone" catching fish like some websites would have you believe. You definitely had to be in the right place.

It will be nice to get to the island tomorrow, first time in almost 2 weeks.  It will give up some quick limits in less than an hour.  It will also give more space for everyone to spread out a bit.

Yeah, the island should be good.  3 foot leaders did the best,.

No fish for me!  The river is handing it to me this year.  Made to the island, first time anyone's been there in almost 2 weeks, I had high hopes of finding old holes stacked full of fish but no luck.  3 fish caught from there while I was there.  They we're getting limits across from Schroeder Farm but the line was in chest deep swift water and was elbow to elbow.   They we're also getting fish at button wood.  Maumee tackle claimed that was the side to be on.  Guys were elbow to elbow at the rapids also.

Man... I would have thought the island would be the place since it hasn't been fished.

It was in a very narrow area, I don't get it.

That narrow area you mentioned is a hole that they stack up in. Its been a really weird year for sure.

Good luck, weather looks like it will be steady.  Shouldn't need a brick to find the bottom!  Like to get back over but now it's turkey and mushroom season.

0 eyes. Got there at seven. out of four of us 1 limit and the rest of us only 1 more eye. I did catch the 3 biggest Carp in my life LOl! First time ever so next time I know a little better what to expect. (like speed tying) Got snagged a bunch. But sometimes you will reel in about 3 lines that were broke or cut off and you can restock the box.

Been tough this year!  I hate fishing the crowded lines where they've been doing really well.  Might try this week.

Prairie Creek is much better.  Buddy got them long line trolling cranks.  Will drift crawlers once it warms up.  Does real good down there all year but gets the big ones in the fall.  Just eaters the rest of the time.  I heard they've been doing really well down at Brookville also.
