Rhode Island added 1 fluke to the limit but shortened the Black Sea Bass season. womp womp.

Fluke is something we need to meet up for.

Just let me know when you want to head down my way and I will take you on my 22' CC. I am looking for a 15lb fluke+ this year. The last 3 seasons combined I have documented over 1000 keeper fluke in about 30-35 trips which averages over 30 fluke per trip. This does not even include the 2500 short fluke or the sea bass, sea robins, skate, and bluefish. Its fun fishing to say the least.
-
the best place for a shot at a 15lb plus would be the nantucket shoals. have seen pictures of fluke up to 19lbs come from out there.

I have some good numbers for big fish as well and its no where near Nantucket. A 13, a few 11's, 10's and many 9's and 8's. I consider anything over 8 a doormat. I am doing something different than all of the other boats out there and it seems to be working.
However, I would love to give the shoals a try.

catching big fish consistent in RI waters is impressive. keep it up.

Id give up an average canal spot/pattern as a trade for some hot fluke action. Im super interested in getting some from the surf. I pulled some shorts from the lip last year but never found a big one in close.

5 sea bass aren't even worth going out
-
Yeah they have to be 5 big ones like 4lb plus to make it worth it.
-
commercial guys can catch 200 lbs. at 5 lbs that's 40 fish. I don't get it. the draggers are allowed 50,000 lbs by catch. tell me the rec guys arn,t getting the shaft
-
As someone who commercial fishes for Sea bass it's more like 80 to 120 fish to make 200 lbs
-
I was figuring based on 5 lb fish. I know they can keep 12 in fish. just don't seem right to me
-
It's really hard to find anything over 3lbs come commercial season for a inshore angler.
-
I,ve got a few but not in the last few years
-
You can find a few but no way a limit of them commercially. We are measuring fish a lot.

Rec guys always get the shaft. In state comm license isn't huge money. Buy one, report your catch, keep the fish if you want to stock up.
-
If I could get a commercial license in RI there would not be any fluke left. lol

Want to dent the numbers? Let me know when you are ready my friend and we'll make some flatties hit the deck.

Season starts soon. Once I find them I will let you know. If you do not have gear (which i am sure you do) I have everything we need.

:rotflol: :rotflol: :rotflol:LMAO." If you don't have the gear" Jon is like all of us. Not much we don't have and if we don't have it we will. ;D ;D.

Which is why I stated "I am sure you do".

Was thinking of picking up one of those quantum accurists for fluke and Sea Bass fishing. I like the flipping switch mechanic to keep it in freespool to feed out to hold bottom.

I like the idea of this. The Drag lbs are not bad at 12lbs. I like to run Avet SXJ's and I use the bait runner feature in a similar method. New this year to the boat will be a pair of the Shimano Tran X reels.

john skinner swears by the quantum accurist for fluke and they make a power handle for it too now.
