Dead Smelt's on Sebago
« on: May 20, 2006, 08:53 AM »
Did anyone see the piece on WCSH6 about the dying Smelts that washed up on shore in Sebago??? Bio seems to think it was from the stress of the spawn.... ???

Free sewin bait, we didn't see any yesterday, probably because of the wind, it was blowin pretty good out there. They were probably washed up on someone's nice million dollar beach.....HA HA HA, I can't believe they are complaining about it. Mabey they should sell and go back to were ever they came from, I'll bet it's not native Mainers complaining, it's part of the natural process of the lake, If it were my beach, I'd be out there rollin in them...  :rotflol: :rotflol:

like jacksmelt said that is natural for smelts to do that, especially when they get big, they die after the spawn, same thing happened on East Grand a couple of years ago, thousands of dead smelts washed into Greenland cove, no one complained but the locals sure ate good for a couple of weeks.

Long Lake (FRC) is covered right now with them.  The gulls are sitting on shore burping and farting and not even able to fly.
