DEATH OF PECKS POND
« on: Nov 01, 2016, 06:21 PM »
SAD TO SAY PECKS POND IS IN ITS LAST STAGE OF DRAINING FOR DAM REPAIR , AN ABSOLUTELY UNDERFISHED BODY OF WATER MAINLY DUE TO WEEDS BUT HELD ALOT OF BIG BIG BASS, LOOKS LIKE ONLY A COUPLE OF ACRES ARE GOING TO BE DREDGED BEFORE REFILLING SO ALOT OF IT WILL NOT EXIST AFTER IT IS REFILLED. FAIRWELL MY FRIEND >:(

Will they refill it once the work is done?

If so, will they try any kind of restoration?

Seems like a waste if there were fish to be caught.
What happened to the remaining fish? Were they lost through the draining process? (kind of like "throwing the baby out with the bath water" scenario)

For anglers, and even nature lovers as well, the proverbial death of a waterway is never a good thing!

pecks pond is on rt.402 just south of 84. I was hoping they would dredge a lot more of the lake, it needed it. When they refill it they will stock it for something like 5 years but it'll take 10 to make it a decent lake again. Same as Brady's.

I haven't been by the lake since before they drained it. Is there anything left or just a muddy mess?

I luved both oaks and millers.
Fished oaks for 30 years.
I remember when millers held eyes.
It was a shame what was done to both these lakes.
I fished oaks once last season on the ice.it was a bloodbath.
I did have the heart to go back.
Im 54 yo.now.by the time its rebuild and stocked and the fish get to decent size.ill be Dead.
I dont think Oaks will ever be as good as it once was.
Hopefully my kids and their kids can fish it once agsin.
I never fished pecks but feel just as bad for its loss.
Seems Gouldsboro is making a nice recovery along with brady.

yeah, I fished Oaks once this season for a couple hours. Got a bunch of small gills... but something did steal a nice sized minnow from a tip up. Oaks at least has that deep spot that is still holding fish. Once they refill it there will be some seed fish from the old lake so that lake isn't totally dead. Pecks is starting from scratch. I was just hoping they would dredge it a lot more. I guess time will tell.

If it's logical it probably won't happen, seems the normal motto for the state is do it a$$ backwards.  Just look at the genius round-a-bout at the airport, they did such a great job planning it they have to tear it out and make it bigger because it's too small.  I'd be surprised if they do anything beyond fix the dam.

I wish I could say I'm surprised but I'm not.  They have the opportunity to do it right and they'll end up half a$$in it and then make up excuses why they couldn't do this or that.

I would think they have to fill it up atleast to the level of where the protected lily pad things were located.
