Big Fish
« on: May 05, 2018, 05:52 AM »
Made it out with my daughter yesterday evening to my favorite big crappie lake and was able to boat my personal best. A 17in 2 1/2lb black crappie. One of 17 big fish we caught. Eggs were no where near ready and all 17 fish were females. Not a single male. I think they were just starting to move into shallower water but males were not. Lilly pads were just starting to grow to near surface. I'm thinking next full moon I stand a chance for a rare 3lber. Wish I knew how to get pictures on here or if there is someone I can forward a photo too I would love to share my trophy.

That's one big crappie.  I'll bet the picture alone would weigh 4 ounces.....

I noticed the same thing on our crappie trip last Wednesday.  I kept 10 fish and nearly all were females. Their egg sacks were not fully developed yet.  The owner of the lake said that they had been shallow for 10 days already and wondered if these fish were a second wave of spawning.

We had crappie tacos last night.  Everybody knows that sautéed in butter is better for you than fried. Right?...

fish on,  I do believe I'll have another, fish off
