Depends on what you're looking to catch. I'd like to take a shot the Kankakee river system. Any ice fishing location probably would be worth a look for panfish

Bring the bug spray for any river system in Indiana! I swear the deer flies home in on me from miles around!

Kank is insane right now. If and when it comes down try down at the rr bridge on the state line. There is a launch there. Go to the left a follow that ditch. Nice northerns and panfish there. Just like anywhere else, good days and bad days for me, but its a calm nice area without anyone around.

Don't know how far east/south you are willing to go but a few places I like are:
Potato Creek State Park - wipers/crappie/largemouth. Nothing bigger than an electric trolling motor allowed. Two launches make it easy to divide the lake.
Tippicanoe River from north of Winamac to south of town.
Pine/Stone Lakes inLaPorte.

If you get there before they open in the morning it is free. Check times on their website. We went the other night and got in free after 9:00pm.

Yes, Washington Park is in Michigan City, and there is a boat launch. It's in the marina, right next to the big lake. Easy to find on google maps satellite view
If you get there before 7 or 8 AM, it's free. Although sometimes they close it down on weekends for big events
There is enough water inside the harbor and the lower creek to cover if the lake gets too rough for you. Bass, drum to catch in the harbor during summer, and occasional pike. When the water is cool enough there are steelhead from now til August, then Sept/Oct there will be some coho and kings around
Personally I think the drum are the most fun and consistent. Troll some 8-12 foot crankbaits and you'll catch plenty. The gap between the lighthouse and the detached breakwater is almost always stacked with them

There is also a kayak launch down near the casino further up Trail Creek. A little far to the lake but when you want to fish a different stretch of water, there you go.

It's 25 to launch at the beach or 10 to lanch at trail Creek Marina. And yes if your there before they open it's free at the beach. But be aware some days depending on n who is working they will try and make you pay if they can catch you leaving. I've had it happen !
