Nice work Jon.  Glad the new setup is working out well.  I had a nice skunking saturday morning on the Deerfield.  Then I pumped up a tube like the rest of googans and floated down the river.

Pat that's funny!  Ive had those googans in some sections.  They avoid riverton though since the water temp is still 50's!

Will its a 5 weight sage foundation with a #2 lamson liquid reel.  Reel is good except the googan at the shop who spooled it (I should have known better) didnt tighten the spool all the way.  First drag pulling rainbow and I had the spool almost come off!

Lamsons are great reels.  I believe all, or at least most, have a sealed drag.  One of these days I'm going to upgrade from the bargain bin fly outfits.  However, my cabelas outfit was my first purchase and the rod and reel I still end up using the most.  Keeping the line in good condition sure helps.

I use the same outfit. For trout fishing, ive found the reel to be nothing more than a line holder, as i play most fish in by hand. Not to often im bringing them in on the reel.

When you hook into a nice smallie or a carp, the reel is nice to have.

Until you have a steelhead at the other end.  Then you def need a good reel.  The drag on my Orvis Encounter is not that smooth and it was a pain fighting a steelhead on a low end reel.

To each is own.  I went cheaper than I thought I was going to.  Remembet to some its not a matter of needs instead it is a matter of wants.  You can bet some bass, pike and other species will be taken with that reel.  Maybe even an albie....

Not to mention in the past two weeks 3 trout over 20" have been caught and released one bow was 24"  Ive landed 5 over 20" this season...so im after fish that require good drag especially if Im using 3x.
