Of the following techniques, methods, skills...etc, how would you rate yourself as it applies to each? 10 is the most confident and 1 is the least. Be honest with it as well...if we were all 10"s we would not be sitting in our little cubicles right now we would be on the water wearing ugly shirts with sponsor logos all over them.
I'm assuming that this is mainly a bass topic, so I'll answer it that way. There are a lot of good bass anglers out there that don't fish tournaments for many reasons that could put a whoopin' on some of the pros (including the best) if they had the time and money to put into it. Often, folks don't ever get into this type of fishing for various reasons (money, family, time, and opportunity).
I guess I'm not sure what I'm rating against, but if I'm rating my own personal confidence in use or tactics, then here it goes. Keep in mind this is not a comparison to other anglers (pros, friends, fishing buddies, or MFF members) but rather gives you an idea where my strengths are... So, here is my confidence scale:
Casting techniques:Flipping - 5
Pitching - 5
Accurate skip casting - 9
over all accuracy casting - 9
Effectiveness with specific baits:Plastic Worms - 10
Senkos - 9
Tubes - 9
Frogs - 7
Jig N Pigs - 7
Crankbaits - 6
Topwater plugs - 7
misc. plastics - 7 (depends on the plastics, some 10 and others 2)
spinnerbaits - 9
buzzbaits - 9
Specific tactics:
Texas rigging - 10
Carolina Rigging - 5
Split shotting - N/A
Drop Shotting - 7
Wacky Rigging - 8
What area are you weakest in and what needs the most improvement?
Getting more fishing time!
Probably flipping and pitching simply because I don't take the opportunity to do this as much as I can opting for other techniques, yet I know that they are extremely productive.
Also, there is a lot more that can be added, like fishing off shore structure, reading lake maps, deep water presentations like vertical jigging with jigging spoons, etc.
Good thread though.
