Big Burk, according to the community radio the lake is rising roughly an inch to half inch a day.
It will peak sometime in mid May.

For things to be back to normal water wise they will have to develop at drainage system and control gate.

For the cottage owners, it may take years. :(

Flood Control

I have an update on the Fishing Lake flood.

I saw on the 6:00pm new that they were going to open the road at Fishing Lake today and let some of the water out. After supper I went for a drive to check it out.

The authorities set up a barricade a fair way up the road from the dig. I parked the vehical and walk to it.
The channel that was dug is roughy 7-8 feet wide and 8 to 10 feet deep right across the 310 highway at the South end of Fishing Lake.
This area, close to the creek, used by the fish to get to their spawing grounds, will have minimal alterations. It will eventually have a bridge built across it. At least if we get alot of rain the lake will not rise now.
The area where the flood control gait will go will be another channel. It will be constructed further to the East.

Here is the new channel, looking towards the lake to the North East.

This is the center of the channel right through the 310 highway.

And this is it looking South East.

There is a fair current in the channel, with fairly clear water. I could see schools of small fish being swept away by the current and slightly larger fish (10-12 inches) fighting to make it back to the big lake. I hope Fishing Lake doen't loose the fry gamefish population. I am not sure if they would over winter in the spawing lake to the East. :-\

I wonder if I found a new fishing area. :w00t:
