Highs in the 70's to 80 out at least 7 days here in Northern Indiana. Last frost date for our latitude was yesterday.
I can hear bullfrogs and peepers on the ponds. Toads are in love.
About time!
-
Yes, it's about time.

Maybe not according to the temps, but spring has been here for a bit. Crappie spawn in full swing, gills and ears are making beds and morels are up. Now if only I can pull myself away from them to get my garden planted!
-
And toads were breeding in my garden pond before the temps shut that down

They are breeding in my ponds presently. Lots of porn to watch. LOL
And they are very fortunate there are only 4 to 5 inch trout int he trout pond and not larger bass.
Funny I'm not seeing any toads in the pond with the 4 to 7 pound bass. I wonder why that is? ;D

What spring? seems like we go from winter to summer. Then, summer to winter. We may get a couple weeks of spring and fall.

I have had toads breed in my little pond for years. It's really odd, they breed, I see the eggs in the creek, tadpoles are everywhere......then they just disappear. Not like my yard is loaded with toads either. 1000s just gone without a trace.

Same here! I too wonder about that!

A friend in Massachusetts that is very knowledgeable about amphibians among other things said the following:
"Toads are dry land wanderers. They live under stuff by day, hunt by night. Sometimes under porch lights or street lights that attract bugs."
-
Yup
Toads - dry and on land
Frogs - wet (but not always)

but toads do breed in water. Lay eggs there too.

Yup, It came in with a literal bang here. On the 7th at about 7:20 AM, a thunderstorm produced a fireball bolt of lightning that had a strobe sequence of 3 rapidly successive flashes. The thunder that followed produced th loudest explosion I've ever heard. After things cleared up I went out and put in some of the seedlings that we started in a cold frame and as a sure sign of spring,
the riding mower is broken down already.
Rose breasted grossbeaks in the neighborhood last evening. The migration is full on. Ended the day with a concert of cricket frogs and toad music.
Get out there..... it's on

No hummingbirds or Orioles yet at the feeders but should show up any time. Picking the last of the big yellow sponge now. Crappie are turning black. Air conditioners going in windows this evening. Hope i don't need them for a couple more weeks anyway. Got garden in ground Saturday. Hope it wasn't too early. Alot of things signal the last of spring even if it seems it just started. Busy time of year for me. Grandkids keep me very busy. I try to keep Friday mornings open for fishing.

Had a rose-breasted grosbeak, my first humminbird of the year, and a pair of orioles hanging around the house all day on Friday...Havent seen them since...Lake County

What's wrong with the riding mower?
-
One word - age. Crack where fuel line comes out of the gas tank. Drips gas on the
starter motor. Not good. A small puddle on the floor under it probably saved my hide.
We are undergoing a major migratory push here today. Multiple warbler species sighted
and I had a hummer visit nectar feeder within 15 minutes of hanging it.
Oh, yeah, this is a fishing forum...... The crappies are going crazy.
fish on, and get your peas in, fish off

Northwest Indiana. Have pair of Bluebirds in new box I put up, after I had to do a little, doing away of a few sparrows, that were at war with the Bluebirds. Wren in the wren house. No hummers yet.
Had a nice meal of bluegills a week ago! Fishing sight!
