You see some of the mangled ones on the right....the more they beat them up, the better they seem to work. I'm working on a few trout patterns for Jr. We'll see if he'll share with the "Old Man"

There's a bunch of possibilities.
 
I use a #6 wide gap without the bead for sunnies.

Not sure yet what Mylar braid is? And "core removed". Help me out with that, if ya woulf RG. Thanks for the great info. Great looking "perch fly's" by the way!

Available in lifetime sized quantities  for next to nothing from any craft store, or in outrageously overpriced little packages from fly tying suppliers.
In bundles

It's woven around a cotton cord core

Core removed

I'll do a tie for you and post some pics when I get a chance.
