That sounds good  trap....the stencil kits work very well, I stenciled rods back to 1992,  and 24 years later are still perfect.

why not put a coat of epoxy over it?????

I spent a little time today looking into crystal clear labels that would work with my ink jet printer. It might be an option if I can find the right combination.

Probably cheaper to have my Bride do the lettering. She has perfect penmanship.

Yes  , that's what we did.  Stenciled on the letters and numbers, then brushed on clear epoxy over them to seal them. The same stuff we used to seal the guide thread wraps we used over the stencil letters....came out real nice and neat.

Clear labels sound good rg...let us know what you come up with.

This picture was taken last year, I built the rod in 1992 (Sage Blem blank.#4 weight, 490 LL series, (9 ft. 4 wt light line series).. awesome rod.)....you can see the stenciled letters are still perfect after all these (24) years.

I'll check out the labels. No one's gonna wind my butt!

I've messed with thread art before. Somehow I can't justify the time to do that. Plus, I don't like a cluttered Rod. I guess if I built surf rods.....

I like the water slide idea. I'm gonna order the paper and play with some decals.

I played around with it many years ago, but never got to involved . I have seen some nice wraps from a builder down around Naples .  I not a big fan of big butt wraps either.

Old friend for sure trap ! How about " BOFF" Best Old Friend Forever !  I've used it all over this country, but I built it for the Delaware, my home water, where it really shines and it has been my workhorse for the last 24 years here.
I do use another super sweet rod I built a year or two after this one which is my Sage #3 weight 389 LL.  When the tricos , ants, midges and tiny olives are being eaten, I use the 3 wt..It really protects those super fine tippets, when an 18" or 20 incher sips your fly.

Nice fish too. That reel looks like my Red Truck.

Not sure what your Red Truck is rg, but that reel in the picture is a 40 + year old Orvis CFO that I bought a few years after High school....still almost as good as new. The sweet sound of their drag is unmistakeable when you hear one on the river.....Love that reel.

I'll have to look into that stencil thing. I hate not marking my rods, but I'm embarrassed by anything I try to write.

Thanks,
 Rg
Just adds character to the rod. Got to remember perfection is an unattainable goal. But when you aim for it you land closer to it than somebody that doesn't aim for anything. Seen a birthday card the other day that said Don't Grow Up.  Its A Trap!!!! Words to live by right there.
