It often takes many casts on the big water with big flies, but sometimes it happens...

Crazy story Trapper and nice fish guys !   Sadly I have seen these birds key on other stocked waters once the trout are 'in'.  I wish the trout tasted awful to them and they just targeted the lesser species......like bass...  ;D

Very nice, Gump! Thanks for sharing.   ;D
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.
The brook trout is the prom queen of the trout world, and a promiscuous prom queen at that!

Nice job Gump!! You are a true sportsman! Is that a glass rod you're using? The blank has that look to it.

Thanks Trap.  When I was younger learning to fly fish I went after gills first.  Forgiving little buggers helped me build confidence before hitting those fickle trout.

WannaKM,

Thanks.  Very good eye !   Yes, that is a vintage Orvis FullFlex 9' #9wt.  I have it paired with an old British made Orvis Madison real.  It is a big combo but lined with a RIO outbound short line with intermediate tip, I can really rip big flies 70-80 ft. with a double haul.  I put this combo together for pike/musky but as you can see it fits the bill for big shoreline trout and salmon.
