Smartphone GPS Apps
« on: Jul 28, 2011, 02:49 PM »
So, my cell phone crapped out and I ended up finally caving in a getting a smartphone (HTC Desire).  It's neat, I'm not really  interested in all the crap it does...I do like the camera, etc....but I am looking through the apps and I see all kinds of GPS related apps - ones that give you precise speed measurements, allow setting waypoints, etc.  these are features that are missing from  my fishfinder and I want to try out one of these apps to get waypoints for fishing.

Anyone out there try this?  Which apps are good for this function? There are soooo many ???

I downloaded lakemaps for mine,  it was $15.00  The only down side is it does not show quite everything as the paper printed map does.

Check out "MY TRACKS".  It is 100% free and quite useful.  I use it for trolling as well as hiking and hunting.

I tried a free one called GPS essentials - it's been working well for me.  Accurate speeds (even walking), good waypoint control and accurate direction/location.
