It might if I  figure out how to use it. Mostly just a project and idea to get me started  in the wood shop. I’ll be making some other reels and some custom floats to use with them when the weather has me boxed up.

Right now I’m thinking about making Christmas gifts. The reel was a good warm up. Got my brain going in a direction. I slid back in pretty easily compared to years before.

Nothing like a cold , wet November day to enjoy the “Little Wood Shop”.
If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Well…different anyway my Bride and I like it. No muss no fuss.

Anyway I’ll be turning her more birdhouses for her “tree”. Think  I’m gonna make a couple more mini “un Christmas trees” as presents for my daughter and son’s wife.

Yet another couple thousand pieces….oye! I do this every time..

Might get a chance to test that reel today. Don’t care if I catch anything. Just want to practice  bit.

Good stuff, I like the UN-Christmas Tree. That gives me an idea of something I can possibly make with my grandson.

What a talent you are with the wood RG! If the reel doesn't work out with the fly rod you can always use it on your ice fishing jigging rod. It will be the only one on the ice; that's for sure.

Oh, I don’t know about talent. But I’ve been building stuff for a long time. I still seem to come up with new challenges. It’s  very much like fishing to me. I get completely immersed. Quite relaxing and keeps the brain working. My son who is an incredible artist, tells me I’m an artist too. Since I can’t wrap my head around that idea, I just build stuff. Some useful, some practical, some fun, some whimsical and some just plain silly.

When I look around our house and really look at all the stuff I’ve made, I get a chuckle out of it all. Even if it doesn’t work.

Sometimes wonder if I’ve got a screw loose.

I don't think so.  just a really neat hobby which you seem to enjoy and you're good at.  Kinda like tying flies.

Helped a friend move a wood lathe into his shop today. He’s a retired (35 years.) high school shop teacher. He asked me if I’d stop by and teach him some techniques. He owned a cabinet shop for many years and I occasionally did some turning for him. He’s retired now and has a rare heart condition. He introduced thousands of kids to crafts like woodworking, stained glass, pottery and more.

Don’t think I could be more honored than to spend some time helping him get back into wood turning. He did some turning in the past, but modern tools and methods are kind of foreign to him. Now it’s a way of dealing with his health issues. His body may not think so, but his brain is still moving forward.

Turning Tiny!
Making a couple miniature “Un Christmas trees” for my daughter and my Son’s wife.

Tiny birdhouse, snowmen, trees, ornaments and Santas so far. A lot more to go. 1000 little pieces…again!

Bob, I love your story about using the woodworking as therapy; their is also  a big movement where fly fishing is used for therapy, both physical and mental for women recovering from breast cancer   and veterans  and others with mental health issues. Fly fishing sure as hell keeps me in the game of life! Thnaks for helping out and keeping your skills sharp!
