Lathe came in today. The unboxing.

Very simple and effective belt change system.

All mounted to the stand and chucked up....ready to go.

A test spin to assess.

My initial review is it's one really sweet machine. Centers are dead nuts inline right out of the box. Adjustments, tail and headstock seem bombproof and super simple to use. It's quieter than any lathe I've ever been around and there's no vibrations of any sort. The variable speed adjustments and wide range of speed (250-4000 rpm) are smooth. I couldn't detect any torque reduction as I pushed in to hog out material.

The stand is perfect🙂

I anticipate many hours of quality turning and time with my Son.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Got the new lathe guard mounted up.

The fellow I bought it from is working on a crew doing a renovation to a school. The school was throwing 2 of these in the dumpster. New in the box. MSRP...$398..... I bought one for $50.

Our tax dollars in action :-\

Latest lathe project. A mortar and pestle for grinding spices in my kitchen.

First try at a Celtic Knot. Came out perfect. Fun stuff.

Already done Mac. Just the back. I took the top part off. Didn't like in my way. If I ever mount a duplicator, I can put it back on. Just too clumsy for the hand work I do.

Does a really nice job of containing the mess.

The more I use this lathe the more I like it. I asked it to do a lot hollowing out end grain rock maple.....it said "Yeah....I can do that!"

In time the operator may be able to use it to its capacity.

This one is for my friend at work. He was a chef for 30 years before retiring and working part time like me. I showed him the pics of my first one and he ordered one for himself.

I like it !

Like e turned black walnuts Dom? I was tripping over them when I was walking in the park the other day. I stomped on one and hurt my heel. I thought...hmmmmmm....I wonder if I could turn one of them.

My Bride likes them.

RG  Those are Fantastic!!

I was wondering where you got the wood with the holes in it. I am glad you enlighten us. I had to go back to look at them again to see that they were walnuts.

My son owns the place his mother got in our divorce. I was there the other day and saw that the chestnuts that I had planted years ago were dying off. Some are 30 foot tall. I always thought that they were Chinese but now think they are American chestnuts. I wish you were not so far away as I wonder what the wood looks like. I ran some through a wood splitter when they first started to die and it was almost impossible to split. Quite knarly and hard.
