Silver Lake Shakedown
« on: Apr 09, 2023, 11:50 AM »
Went over to Silver Lake this morning for this season's shakedown. Did go up in to the inlet to see if the crappie are in. Only fished for about 15 minutes and caught just 1 and 1 gill. Not in yet. What I did notice was lots of dead crappie on the bottom on the way in. Also lots of floating debris on the north end. One on the northwest side appeared to be a good sized log with branches sticking out of the water with cormorants perched on them. If you run the north end use caution. Also saw 6 or 8 loons. Everything with the boat went well. All set to herd perch on Erie tomorrow.

I wonder why the dead ones Jerry?
There wasn't enough ice for oxygen depletion.  That's for sure.

Good luck on Erie.

A buddy went out of Hanover this past week on a rough day.
They marked fish in 62-64 FOW but couldn't get them to bite.
They moved out to about 68 and found another school that was more cooperative.
They didn't slay them, but he said the sizes were all nice.
They used emeralds.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

The dead fish were all small. I would guess none bigger than 8". The one I caught was just shy of 10".

I'll be fishing with Greg tomorrow. Hope we get in to some jumbos because as you know SizeMatters.

Bigger?

lol

Good luck you 2 young bucks.
Believe it when I say that I wish I was up there taking this fishing trip with you guys tomorrow.
Be safe!!!

68 FOW.

But I'm really thinking it might not be a bad idea to go even deeper.
The lake never froze.
It might be warmer.........out deeper.
Just saying.
 ;)

I know of one old fart that will be out at Hanover in a few hrs.  I’m in the 16’ black alumacraft with a yami. Let’s find them today.
