Ohio headboat recommendations
« on: Apr 12, 2023, 08:40 PM »
I'm going to Wisconsin the last week in June. Thinking about stopping in Port Clinton on the way and going on one of the headboat charters for walleye. Anyone have any recommendations and / or experience they could share ? Not much traffic on the Ohio section of this site.

Jeff and I have used Shore-nuf Charters.
Not bad.

theres a bunch of open head boats right there at fishermans wharf, they are deathly slow and take forever to get to the fishing grounds.if you are looking to do a charter,we have gone with relentless lake erie fishing charter last three years and are booked to go again this june.kent is a super nice guy and puts you on the fish.if you talk to kent, let him know his charter buddies from lake ontario recommended him.

Never heard the term "headboat" before. What is a headboat?

It's also called a party boat. Instead of a private 2-3 person charter , these are bigger boats that take out small groups of people. and they charge by the "head ". It can be a nice way to take a charter without the bigger price of a private charter , usually $75 or so plus tip for the mate onboard.

Got it. Yeah I've seen more of those used in saltwater.

Some private boats put together open type six pack trips too where you hop on with a group put together rather than you trying to get guys to commit. Good way to get on the water while vacationing sometimes.
