My daughter lives in Verplanck about 100 yards from the river. Do the stripers get up there? Never fished for one.

If I gave it a shot, what bait should I throw?

Yes they will pass your way in Verplank.  Herring or sand eels.

Can anyone recommend a guide service for stripers in the Verplanck/Peekskill area? Thanks

Try checking with local tackle shops for guides.
I lived in Yorktown Hgts many years ago. We fished for Stripers near Indian Point ( likely off limits since 911). The river side near Camp Smith out past the railroad track bridges, and the best area was Croton Point. At Croton Point south side you have the  outflow from Croton Reservoir that pushes fresh water into the river.
I had a 16' boat so we had lots of access to different areas
Best of luck to you
John

Nice bass Got Em.  Haven't been out yet. Going to try to target the full moon tides (around May 5) if I can get my boat out of storage, hopefully tomorrow.

I am planning on heading down to Albany / Troy area to fish from shore.  I usually start of near Valelente builders? to get bait near that creek.  However, I
have not had much luck hooking up with a Striper in that spot, and I do not have a landing net to land the fish.

Does anyone know of any public fishing spots from shore?

You can fish below the boat launch at the federal lock in Troy, or on the opposite shore, you can fish the power plant in Green Island although most toss artificials there, due to the fast current. Also, Huson Shores Park in Watervliet has shore access, some fish off the small dock there at the end of the park. Down river, Henry Hudson Park below Albany has good shore access as Peter mentions. Schodack Island State Park has good shore access as well.

Good Luck.
