17’ cc attempting Jeffries

Who would attempt 30 miles out in a 17’? Sad 4 lives lost and many families affected.

Very sad.  Condolences to the families involved.

Not sure I'm buying the "30 mile" claim though, I'm wondering if that's just sloppy reporting based on someone Googling Jeffrey's Ledge.  It's a big area and 30 miles out of Hampton puts you on the very far side.  I've been out several times to Southwest Hump when I had my 18'6" CC and that was about 17 miles, which was about as far as I would go in that boat and only on a glass day in August.

Regardless, going offshore in April in a 17' CC with four guys aboard is beyond risky.  Not sure what they were thinking.

But again very sad to see this and feel terrible for their families.

It’s a sad situation, and condolences to any involved.

Mistakes happen, and it’s kinda trash to throw out disparaging comments for those concerned. They paid the ultimate price, send them condolences and let it be.

I don't know what it is, but that piece of water off Hampton seems particularly rugged to me. Maybe it's how deep it gets in such short distance or maybe it's something else, but I've had very bad days twice now trying to read the weather right and get out to Jeffreis or even the halfway hump. Tragic ending for these guys, hate to see it.

You hate to see it. I’ve taken a 17’ wellcraft center console more times than I can count to Jeffries but you haveto pick your days and pay attention. I also Useto trailer the boat to Gloucester so it was a short ride if things got bad. Never went without a larger sister boat either. Condolences to the families involved.
