Ive fished a number of these things and its always hit or miss but I love it.  The crappy weather adds an element of excitement and keeps the fair weather guys away.

North wind on the south side of RI will be tricky.  It holds the big rollers together and the shore break will be wild.  They'll be in the white water.

Canal wise itll be wind over my back and long casts.  If it gets too windy ill swing darters and leave the jigs alone.

2008 I landed my pb there.  Alone!  Empty canal, cant recall if it was Ike or Hanna remnants but wont forget taping that bass at 52" and then next hook up broke off!

10+ years back a buncha buddies of mine fished the west side of Silver Lake in NY on a VERY ugly day in late Fall.
Snow, wind, hail, rain...........crazy ship for sure.
They hammered the walleye that night tossing cranks in the surf and slop.
They tried many times since then to repeat the scenario without any luck.
Occasionally, they had a decent night, but never a crazy one like that immortal evening.

Sometimes you feel like a nut.................... ;)

Good luck.
I hope you slay them.

I remember years ago fishing a hurricane swell on a jetty in RI, we would run out between the swells and cast and run back (it was a flat top jetty) hooking up almost every cast... They were not that big, but dam it was fun. Still had a grumpy old guy telling us we should not do that as it was too dangerous... Well, I will be 61 on the 28th and I would do the same in a heartbeat if I could get away from work...

Best of luck Jonh, hook a big one!

I did that one time Allan and never did it again.  Weakapaug breach.  Hook up in the white water, couldnt land them.  If the waves didnt break, id have to back up fast on the jetty.  I wouldnt have fished at all if I hadnt driven so far.

Mac for whatever reason the canal always worked different.  Logic says fish the cape side tomorrow night, the north wind will be pushing against that shore.  In past trips that was the slower bite and the lee side was better.  If they dont close the bridges Ill fish both.

Thanks guys im pumped.  I havent gone surfcasting this year.  Drytop is ready to go.  Need to stop at the marina and get my plugs and jigs off the boat.

Do you think maybe temperature might have played into it?
The wind blowing COLDER water into the shore???
Pushing any bait in the area to search out something warmer (like Mac in the winter).
And is it possible that the lee side was a nice warm spot for that bait?

There had to be a reason.
There is always a reason.

But sometimes I play hell trying to figure it out.
And sometimes I don't.
Always fun though.

Good luck partner.

Weak storm.  RI was constant schoolies.  Fished there 5 to 10 then hit the canal.  Canal was only bluefish.  Rained hard there and once it started it didnt stop.  Bailed at 2 and got home at 530.
