Fall Stripers
« on: Oct 23, 2023, 11:59 AM »
Fall run seems to be kicking off. Visited my parents at the cape over the weekend. I snuck out Saturday evening for some fishing in nasty conditions. Aspirations of fly fishing were crushed by the wind so I opted for a lighter spinning setup. I was able to pull in 3 stripers with the first being the largest and somewhere just shy of 40”. The other two were smaller fish prob just under the slot.

Nice bass. We were out there about a week and a half ago when the weather was perfect and life was good, especially for albies.

One of these years I'll get an albie.  I've hooked a few in my kayak but never long.

Tog are fun, and tastes better, but an Albie on the fly rod, at least to me, is more fun!

Congrats on the stripers!

It's all good. Last fall we ran into giant striped bass on adult bunker for 2 days and no albies. This year, no giant striped bass but tons of speedsters. I always tell my kids you take what the ocean gives you.

Tog are indeed fun and tasty and shallow this time of year.

I've caught a couple smaller tog and they sure are tasty.  Pound for pound they fight quite well also.  Albies just seem to rip drag which seems like an exciting fight.
