here are three pics taken from Ricks camera, ignore the date on the one, for a former TV show host he doesn't really know his way around a camera

Great pics !    Looks like NY treated you well.  Some of those fish are pigs!

Any noticeable patterns with the largemouth and smallmouth?   what were the hot lures?

the patterns were odd (I thought)

Largemouths: Shallow 3-6feet, but active. They would not take a slowly presented bait (jig, worm or flipping bait) but they chased and ate up Spinnerbaits, Square bills and Lipless cranks (needed to be flashy as the water was pretty stained.

We fished in and around docks, but not under. Most fish were caught by casting parallel to the ends of the dock, or ran at a 45 degree angle acorss the outer corners.

Smallies: they were holding to sand flats and gravel bars. 9-12ft of water (shallower in the afternoon). Same goes here, no slow baits, our tubes when unnoticed, but run a lipless crank or deep/medium crank and they would chase it down all day long

that backlash was caused by sheer stupidity, I had my bait snagged, and for some season disengaged the reel, then gave it a rip trying to free the bait.. dumb

:rotflol: :rotflol:  We've all been there buddy.   One trick I learned, is when you get a backlash like that, or one that refuses to come out, try this trick, it works 75% of the time

1.  tighten the drag down all the way.
2. put your thumb on the spool as firm as possible
3. reel in, against the pressure of your thumb, for 25 feet or so.
4. disengage the reel, and pull out the birds nest.
5. reset your drag
