The best fishing line is............
« on: Apr 11, 2016, 08:14 PM »
In my opinion is Spider wire stealth braid.  I have used it a number of times this year and it is very good stuff.  Narrow diameter, low memory, very easy to cast, tough and really a joy to use.  I use it with my spinning reels and I would say its the best I have ever had.  I like it better than other braided line or mono I've tried.

I have tried so many lines over the years that I have been disappointed with that its nice to get great product that you love.  (This is better than even fireline and much cheaper with the rebates)

Depends on what I am doing/fishing for... Ground fish and tuna, Cortland Master braid has been outstanding, casting from shore (making distance) for Lakers, I have been happy with 24lb Gliss and the list goes on...

I feel, as do many others, that there isn't one finite answer to this question.
WAY too many variable come into play.
Things like..........

Species and/or size of fish
Lure or bait type being used
Rod and reel used
fresh or saltwater
backer, mainline, leader, etc.
temperature, both air and water
clarity, or lack of clarity, of the water
type of fishing - jigging, trolling, pitching cranks, etc.
ice fishing or soft water

Jebus.....you get the picture.

I use 3 different kinds of braid, and 4 different kinds of mono.  depends on the setup.

I just freshwater fish.  I don't ice fish.  You make it all sound pretty complicated.  So you have different lines for all these variables.  So what line would you use for spinning in fresh water with either with plastics, cranks, or jigs and which of the types of line would you choose for which weather.  There must be some basic lines that you like that you could name.

Are you a guide?

Again, it depends on more than what you gave to me.
If I was tossing plastics or cranks in a lot of slop, abrasion resistance and low stretch might be called for.
Then I might go with your spider wire.

If I was doing the same in gin clear water for spooky trout or walleye I would look at a really good fluorocarbon, like Seaguar.

If I was somewhere in the middle, with my grandson, tossing things into a farm pond or around a small lake, I might use a decent mono, like Trilene XL.

You can use one line for all your fishing if you want, but it might not provide you with what you need.
You might lose fish.
You might not catch that many.
It might provide the wrong action on the bait.
Etc.

There's not one simple answer.
Sorry.

Nope, not a guide.
I ran some charters though back in the 80's and been on plenty however.
These days I fish for me.

Good luck.
Mac
