A little kitty action
« on: May 13, 2007, 08:38 AM »
Well it is nice to cast a line again .

After a little house hunting I decided to go for a little fishing  Roll Eyes

Got out to my secret location I hooked up a chunk of sucker and cast out . I felt the weight hit bottom and I settle down to wait for some action . The  warm sun had made me thirsty so I reached for my water and as soon as I opened the cap I felt a tug ...

2 minutes in to the season  Grin

I did get 1 creature that was not a cat

I stayed until late into the night and was rewarded  Cool

So after getting my Specialist badge for channel cats for the umpteenth time I called it quits .

Final tally

12 cats .

4 non masters , smallest 16 inches

8 masters  , largest  36 inches (nothing huge )

1 sore elbow
here  fishy , fishy , fishy.......

Great shots of the cats, and the clam as well.

You want to use a pretty heavy rod...a lot of guys will use something like a MH pike/muskie rod for cats.  Keep in mind that many of these fish are in the 20 lb range...if you use something like a ML walleye rod, you may be there a while, which also puts more stress on the fish.  You don't need the heavier "catfish" rods, but a lot of guys use them...you don't need a pile of sensitivity, although it doesn't hurt.

Keep in mind that I'm far from an expert.

WTG, Dan - a double species day!   ;D  Looks like you had the bait of choice!  I'll get in on the action on the weekend hopefully.
