Maumee River
« on: Jan 19, 2017, 04:45 AM »
I know it's only January but I've been thinking about it alot lately. Last spring was my first time there and I can't wait to get back. I gotta question tho. What do you boys and girls do with your fish? Put em in a cooler with ice and bring them home to clean? Clean them there and bring the fillets home kept cool? What about staying a couple days like I plan on? I'd like to try and limit one day stay in a hotel and limit again the next day. What do I do? Clean the fish and keep the fillets in the fridge in the room? Just curious what others do/would do

We either wade with a stringer attached to our waders or else we toss them into a cooler with ice if the water is to swift.

I went on a 2 day charter one year on lake erie. We took our bag of fillets and put in a cooler stuffed full with hotel ice the first evening after we were done.  Changed out ice before the trip home on the 2nd day. Kept them nice and cool.

We do same thing but clean them if we can
This way we don't have to clean them at home

Thanks, that's probably what I'll end up doing

I plan on wading with a stringer. I was asking about cleaning them/keeping them fresh

I just reread and you are correct.
Thanks.

The problem are the guts and carcasses.
How to dispose.
We usually bring trash bags and wrap that all up really well but always ask the hotel if we can toss it into their dumpster.
Never been turned down, but we always clear it with them first.

Take them to Maumee Bait and tackle.  They sell maps to the river, sell license, and believe they also clean fish.  Check their website and call em!
