I am going to do more fly fishing this year. I just wanted to know what your favorite steamers were for streams and small rivers? I tie my own flies so a description of the pattern is nice also. 10 more days!!!

my absolute favorite fly at the moment is a nutcracker. its an unweighted streamer designed to be fished with sink tip line...but if you add a conehead or lead wrap it still works just fine.
heres a pic...i dont tie them, my buddie does...orvis also carries them, but im not tooo crazy about mass produced flies...but if you want to order one to look at it , its a good idea.

Mickey Finns work well and my favorite is tied with a rusty white back and a hot orange belly, its my own simple streamer, I tied it with the Red Bellied dace in mind because of the amount of them I have noticed in a local trout stream, I call it Acid Rain because it kills the fish.

My favorite streamer is called a flash fry. It's about 3"-3 1/2" long. 2 different colored bunny strips with some flash and white bucktail on bottom with a heavy head. works great on bigger fish.

my favorite would probably have to be the montreal sleeper...sounds good doesn't it!
its got some purple and some falsh to it, but Ive seen many different ways of tying it. I usually troll it in small ponds for bows, browns, and brookies especially.

I am fishing for 8"-20" trout. I fish trout streams, but will probably try some lakes and ponds this year also, from float tube.
