Great to hear you're back in business, Paul.
Most people who view this site have gone to Ice Shanty for the winter.
I'm sure your post will get a lot of attention in the spring.
Good luck,

I already ordered and received my SkiJigger! Can’t wait to try it out in May 2020! Thanks for the streamer fly Paul!
I have been trolling my lead core at or near 2.2 mph on the GPS...this speed has worked great. Paul, I’m hesitant to try your suggested speed of 3+ mph but will give it try with the jigger in tow.
A higher strike ratio would be great! What do you think about single hook flies? This has been the only thing we could catch anything in for the past few seasons. Tried tandems and never had a hit but we weren’t jigging of course. I did manage to catch a salmon a few years back with a tandem fly though so...I think it was dumb luck as that was before I got some “lessons” by a long time Winni fisherman!

Mowbizz, I have found tandems do well early, and late in the year on Winni. Mostly spring time though, tandems on fly lines can be super effective.

I also picked up/was gifted two of the G2jiggers for Xmas. Very excited, and yes thank you for the bonus flys as well! I will be placing another order before spring to get some more patterns. The feathers on one of the “merry Christmas” flys I got in the jiggers box had the highest quality feathers/crops I have ever seen. I am almost scared to run it in the water, but it would be a shame not to.

I’m with you MB on the speed, but my biggest pet peeve when trolling is to switch up tactics when it’s not working. For that reason I am very much looking forward to running at the higher speeds suggested. When the bite “is on” I’m looking forward to bumping the speeds and getting these figured out.

You can never have too many “tools” in the toolbox when you’re trolling in my opinion. At least the days I don’t catch fish I feel good about trying new stuff out and learning  more with those experiments.

Yup...hard to change what works but at the times when the bite is “off” I have tried everything in my box and varied speed as well. I seem to remember in the old days when my father used to troll, he had some type of gizmo that attached to the gunwale of the boat and dragged something in the water to tell what speed you were going. This was waaaaay before GPS lol. If I remember correctly the gizmo was reading 5 (mph?)
My most successful speed has been 2-3 mph with a focus on 2.2 ( I have to drag a sea anchor most times unless going into a strong head wind)
I troll with my Tritoon and. 150 Yamaha so I may be trying to sell the toon this spring and get into more of a fishing/recreation type boat...we’ll see how that goes.

The thing about trolling speed, is most only consider the speed on the water. Every lake has current, and a lake like Winni has a lot of them. If the water had current, and is flowering with or against your boat... you get the idea.

That’s why I really try to pay attention to location, direction, depth of presentation, and speed/where you turning, slowing etc. when we hook up. Then try to repeat it again until you find the pattern.

Sometimes the bite is on and none of that matters. Sometimes you only hook up at a certain time of day. Sometimes it’s only one lure, on one rigger on one side of the boat.  I try to think about what I can control, and either vary or repeat depending on success.

I don't think people are getting the same search results as me. The search results for "jiggers" is like something out of a medical manual. Jiggers are some kind of foot issue, a sand flea or something that gets under the skin and makes boils or something. Almost made me puke!

DO NOT SEARCH SKI JIGGERS ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!

Oh man, I helped a friends dad put in a dock at their place in Wisconsin one year. We got covered in what I thought they called “chiggers”. Little buggers bore into you’re skin.... three of us had thousands of them on us, scratching our brains out..... tried everything we could think of to no avail.

My friend found something online that said if you can seal them up and cut off the air they will “come out”. So we found some elmers glue and pasted ourselves while doing some underage 4th of July drinking. I woke up to 1000s of little Elmer glue flecks all over the floor that we all pulled off during the night.... at first I had no idea what it was (since we applied the glue with good buzz going on), then we remembered... so that didn’t work.....

The same day one of the owners friend shows up. Laughs at us, and says if we go get some ice for his beer he will tell us the “cure”. We delivered the ice, and he goes “you’re not gonna like the solution, but I guarantee it works. Go buy all the clear nail polish you can, coat the buggers, and then lay in the sun and let it harden. They will all be dead by tomorrow.”

So the three of us teenagers set off in very very rural Wisconsin to buy nail polish. 4 stores, and hundreds of miles later we had bought all the clear nail polish there was in the area, and we got some crazy looks doing it. However, it worked and was with everyone questioning our sanity/manhood as we drove around asking for nail polish......

Sorry to derail the thread, but you sent me back with that one jethro.
