Summer Fishing lights
« on: Mar 25, 2008, 02:54 PM »
Has anybody tried the lights for open water crappie like they do for ice fishing? I've heard of it but wondering if it is as successful.

"the lights" well ive used a lantern many times
hang it on a tree branch and watch the bait fish move in
could hear the crappie rising after minnows bullhead fishing the night before so i returned the next night with minnows and did well
hot crappie bite at night got to love it ;D
theres mosquito's on the river.  .   . fish are rising up like birds

yes they do work i hang 2 lights one in front of the boat one in the back of boat with a floating light and sometimes a green light in the middle of the boat
brings the bait fish in and the crappies follow  :thumbup_smilie: :thumbup_smilie: :thumbup_smilie:

read your state regs ,some states dont allow submerged lights.Minnesota doe'snt. Ive seen All Linder do it but he wasnt in his home state (Minnesota)on his show. He had good success.

We made a few from those "tap" lights you would see on tv.  We just traced around them on a piece of styrofoam, and then glued into the foam a short piece of dowel rod.  We then inserted a screw eye into the dowel and attached a piece of 20# test line to the screw eye.  That gave us a tether to attach to the boat so the lights don't float away.  I originally didn't think that they would be bright enough to do much good, but they actually work very well, and they don't need to be wired into the boat for power.  You can now find those tap lights in the dollar stores.  We just got 6 of them in a package for $4, and that included the batteries!

Saw the neatest idea the other day, my buddies dad mounted four round trackter lights on the side, lights swivel and go up and down very neat idea.
