Title: Lund Boat Transom Saver
Post by: Fishin-Mission on Apr 22, 2019, 08:33 AM
I am purchsing a used 2014 Lund Impact 1775 with 115 Mercury.  I noticed it does not have a transon saver to go between the motor and trailer for towing. I asked the owner if it had a transon saver and he siad it does not need one.

I read some posts online that say properly manufactured boats do not need one. They say A common argument against the need for a transom saver is that the forces exerted upon your transom during typical boating conditions greatly exceeds those encountered while trailering. To clarify this point of contention, I went directly to the source and contacted several major boat manufacturers to get the official company line and was surprised by what I found. Not only did the majority of the boatbuilders I contacted dismiss the need for a transom saver, but a couple of them seemed to almost be offended by my calling into question the structural integrity of their hull. As one tech put it, "You will be hard-pressed to find any builder willing to admit that their transom isn't strong enough to handle the load," and he was right.

I would appreciate any serious comments on this.

I was also told the same and My Lund has been supporting a 250 verado and a 9.9 kicker going on 12 years , but if it makes you feel more at ease then by all means use 1, it’s your investment

I have owned my 16 foot Grumman with 70 hp Johnson and 6hp kicker hanging on the transom since 1987. Transom is still plenty solid. IMO transom savers are unnecessary "feel good" items.

I was also told the same thing from the LUND dealer. I have had no issues.

Using one won't hurt anything IMHO.
So if you feel better with one...……….

I use one for longer trips.
But sometimes I forget to install it.

Manufactures say you don’t need one but if you have a transom issue insurance company will be looking for one Had a 2008 triumph with 135 Honda that developed  a crack last year and questions were raised about use of transom saver even though manufactures say no need

I'll never drag my boat anywhere without it, I don't care if it's in the Adks over 100 miles away, or if it's my home launch a couple miles down the road.  The peace of mind is worth the 15 seconds it takes to use it...in my opinion.

One thing I noticed when looking at the trailer fo rthe Lund, I do not see a spot for a Transom Saver on the trailer.   My last boat, a Sea Nymph GLS175 had a Transon Saver and a spot on the trailer for it to mate with.  This causes me to believe the Lund Boat does not need one.

No place to connect on my galvanized trailer either, one of the first things I looked into. Wish I could advertise my buddies Impact for sale on here.  :P

I fabricated an aluminum bracket for mine and bolted to the galvanized trailer above the rear marker LED tail light assy.
