MLC relies on website visitors to provide ice out information to us. Declaring ice out is not as easy a task as it may seem. What one person may consider "ice out" another may not. Typically, ice out is declared when a person can navigate unimpeded from one end of a lake to another. Ice may remain in coves or along a shore but when a person can travel from one end to another, it is generally considered out.
Our lakes open up very slowly, relying on air temps, wind speed and direction to break things up. A recent ride around the Augusta area revealed that while there is plenty of open water to try the boat out, many lakes most likely won't be declared completely out until early next week.
