Salimonie Walleye Success
Finally got into some Walleye at the Salimonie Tailwater today. I have to admit it has been a tough week or so. Have really been trying to make some sense of the Walleye "run" here. The water was barley trickling out of the gate and very low. Stained, looking like chocolate milk. Caught them on Fly in slack water behind the larger rocks and boulders, mostly along the Wall. Egg sucking leach?!? of all things. I have circled white areas on the tails of the two I kept. Is this a sign of spawning activity ya"ll ? Never had a Walleye on the Fly Rod before, was super fun fight. Largest was 25 inch. Caught 4, kept 2 for Fish Sandwiches!!
Good Luck Ya"ll

Nice, good job, not good fishing weather. Egg sucking leeches you say. Whatever they want to eat! Never caught one on a fly rod, that's awesome!

Yep, egg sucking leech, I had it ready to go from Misiwaka steel-head day before, I wouldnt lie to ya Roe. Hope you have been Killin em since ice out. Had a few beads of artifical roe dried to shank that stayed on all day. I thought it might catch some small mouth in all the rock there. had a lite sinker at leader tippet union. I had really just about given up on the walleye bite there.

Throw orange/pink instead of chartruse twisty tail grubs, no flowting jig heads here, bounce them off bottom, count rocks, add a rattlle , slow retrieve like your fishing for early smallmouth!! Oh man them sally boys gonna cut my tires! You didnt hear it from me!
