After a surprisingly chilly morning, I got out for an hour or so this afternoon,
A beautiful day . . . sunny, blue skies. 72 degrees. Ideal water levels.
I fished the South Hoosic below the Cheshire Harbor dam in Cheshire for awhile.
After about ten minutes, I caught a 9" brown.
A little bit later, I hooked into a 12" rainbow, which I reeled in to about an arm's length away, when I spotted a couple 10 or 12 year old kids standing on the shore.
I started to wade across the stream with the fish in tow so that the kids could play him in and land him, but along the way, the rainbow slipped the hook and swam downstream.
I walked back to my car and drove downstream a little ways where I made a few casts but didn't have any action. That's also where I saw the only other fisherman of the day (other than the two 10 year olds), who was fly fishing. He reported catching a couple good-sized (16" or 18") browns.
I drove a bit further downstream and fished one more spot (down by the Old Stone Mill), again without any results.
Then I tried a couple smaller streams (the Dry Brook and lower Hoxie Brook) in the hope of rounding out a hat trick by landing a brookie to go with the brown and rainbow that I caught earlier - -
(OK, I only kinda sorta caught the rainbow, but since I'm scoring myself, I'm gonna count it as a catch).
Usually, brookies are far more ubiquitous and hence easier to catch than browns or rainbows, but today must have been the exception to prove the rule, because I couldn't find (much less land) one for love or money.
