Buttery Brown
« on: Sep 16, 2018, 11:35 AM »
I woke up early Saturday morning to get some fly fishing in before a day of chores. I got up to the east branch of the Westfield river by 730. The first spot was the only hole that seemed to be holding any fish. I ended up with one rainbow and three browns. All were caught stripping a bugger.

The next few spots I fished I only received one short strike. I was off the river and on my way home by 1030.

The colors on this brown and the condition of its fins make me wonder if this fish may be wild.

If it isn’t wild it definitely looks to have been in there for a while!

Lifes journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in awell preserved body; but rather to skid in side ways totally worn out shouting (holy sh*t)  WHAT A RIDE! FISH ON!.

How big was that last brown?  It looks like a beauty.

And, if it's not too much to ask, what Town were you fishing in?

(The East Branch is pretty long, and while I can understand concerns about spot burning, I trust that just asking which stretch by Town is not too specific. I'm most familiar with the portion in Cummington, but I'd be curious to hear about  some of the other runs).

The opening on my net is about 15 inches so i'd say right around there.  I was in Chesterfield.  Check out the Chesterfield Gorge if you haven't.  It is a beautiful place with about 7 miles of dirt road that run along it that allows you to easily hole hope a huge stretch of river.

Unclipped adipose suggests it is.  I crushed them yesterday by me pat.  12 to 18".  Sadly the biggest was a bow not a brown like that.
