crappie fishing
« on: Apr 03, 2019, 03:50 PM »
Hello to all, Ill be vacationing the 2nd week of may on squam lake this year.
Was wonder is there good lakes near squam that have a good population
of crappies. I was told wickwas and hermit may be a good choice. Are they
trolling motor only lakes. Any help would be great. Will be spending most
of my time on squam salmon and bass fishing but would enjoy a morning
road trip to catch some crappies. thanks again

You can use an outboard on Wicwas.

Squam Lake, Pemi Lake and Hermit Lake all have some nice Crappies in them.

Dog cove, Long Island and Rattlesnake cove areas on Squam have some good crappie and dont overlook Little Squam

Pemigewasset is good, but you will need a kayak or canoe = car topper only

Get a navigation map if you intend to motor around Squam... Its a prop eater.

That's great advice from 800stealth

I have fished Squam for over 30 years and there is plenty to hit out there

Be sure to take your time, follow navigation maps and dont take shortcuts

The fishery is excellent

Good luck

Hermit has a horsepower restriction, its either 8 or 10 hp max

Thank you Seahunt for the info. I have a paper copy - don't have a clue where it is - now it's just a touch of a key away.

You're welcome, WW.
I have the same issues with papers that I don't need often.  :(

Any place I should start on hermit if I go for crappies. Looks
like a creek in the upper left hand portion of the lake.

Ive found them in the deeper portion of the lake , left out of boat launch and through the narrow. Then search the perimeter of the deep water for bottom structure.
