Breakdown of your open water season
« on: Mar 03, 2005, 10:23 PM »
I just wanted to know what the breakdown of your open water season is.
January-midmarch: colorado river for huge cuttbows/rainbows and some browns
Mid march-Mid April: bass fish purdy mesa reservoir, which warms up quickly.
April 20th-May 31st: in late april-early may, fish jerry creek reservoirs for bass and huge bluegill. May 10th or around there go on a pike trip to crawford. May 11th, first of june: juniata for walleye. May fish highline lake for largemouth bass and crappie, and catfish.
1st of june until about june 20th: pike at taylor reservoir, leon lake brookie trip.
june 20th-july 4th or around there: yearly yampa float(s), for big northern pike and smallmouth bass
July 4th- 21th of july: trout fish colorado river when clear. float on boats.
Late july: yearly gunnison gorge trip for HUGE rainbows and browns.
Early -late august: bass fishing at jerry creek and big bluegill fishing, colorado river if clear as well
Labor day weekend: gunnison gorge float for huge rainbows and browns
after labor day until end of september: jerry creek reservoirs for huge bluegills and decent largemouth bass, maybe colorado river once if clear.
Early october-late october: juniata reservoir for fall walleye bite. Maybe toddle down to purdy mesa for big bass during the day.
Early november-late november: open water fishing the colorado for huge cuttbows and rainbows, and browns. BEST TIME OF YEAR!!!
Early december on open water on colorado river, if NOT icefishing.

That's the very specific breakdown of my open water plan this year. Of course, the dates are subject to change, but general idea is there.

What is the breakdown of your season? It doesn't have to be as specific as mine of course, but I'd like to see it!!!

Jan and Feb - Fishing four trout and/or bass and panfish depending on my mood - ice or open water depending on the weather; also sprinkle in a day or two hunting.
Mar to Mid April - try to find walleyes and panfish
Mid April to Mid June - trout
Mid June to End of September - trout or bass dependig on my mood
October through December - not much fishing - too much hunting to be done.

I fish for trout from the opener (might have to take off that Friday) until bass opens. Then its bass mostly. I'll pond hop and stream fish for bass, and whatever else will bite, and occasionally I go down to the Catskill for browns.  Its fun! Maybe this year I'll go back up to Black Lake. I loved that place!

First week in April I start fishing Seneca for trout and stay there to November. I wonder over to other fingers lakes, and lake Erie for walleye. I fish a week up at black lake and I try to make a few trips to port Clinton Ohio for walleye.

I can't believe you've thought that far ahead.  ;)  Do you have any time off this summer?  I need to burn some leave on the Delaware.
