Has anybody used a trolling motor flap on thier outboard motors? Just wondering if they any good before purchasing one.

If youre talking "trolling plate"...I would guess that the majority of the members have them
They are the cats meow for getting you down to dead slow speed...comes in handy this time of yr and for togue later
Happy Troller("lil fella")-up to 25hp
Happy Troller(small)-20-50hp
Happy Troller(large)50hp+up
There are also other brands that dont require you to "remember" to pull the release on take off that work pretty good as well...my buddy has it on his 4stroke Merc60hp

Just bought a boat with one of these on it, you can see where it has been welded mutipe times from not being pulled up before motoring off ;D

I like the Easy Troller, it is spring loaded so if you forget to raise it it does not break also no shear pins required.

X2 - don't forget to add the center notch for those "in between" speeds. 8)

i hated my easy troll, didnt have enough boat control at low speeds or in reverse

X4 you do loose a lot of steering with it . When your doing 1.0 and below and if its that windy your probably not using it or trolling bait either

I took a 2"hole saw and cut a hole directly in front of the prop, works great 8)

Was it an issue with the "Easy Troller", or just a trolling plate in general? I really like the Easy Troller over the Happy Troller due to the hinged bottom plate. The Troll-a-matic doesn't get great reviews ~ more plastic, than solid stainless I believe.

oops sorry, i had the troll a matic
it was awful because its spring loaded and is down all the time. after a while i rigged up a rope to hold it up if i didnt want it down.
it was an older one so i dont know if the new one can be locked in the up position or not.
