Ah, the old mask dilemma... I would greatly appreciate anyone... someone... anybody... who would direct me to any science based information that masks work for this application to reduce or prevent or stop the spreading of this virus.  Seems that if they could definitely show that masks work, then make it mandatory that EVERYONE wear a mask and at the same time, in this "safe" masked environment, keep ALL businesses and services open with masks in place.   Then again, if they don't work and cannot be proven to work, then why are we wearing them?  I have seen a good number of people in public wearing "masks" incorrectly - partially covering their face or not pinching the metal nose piece to contour the nose.  Driving home tonight... listening to the radio, CBS news did a great job of spreading more FEAR - False Evidence Appearing Real by claiming that a reliable source - not named of course is now questioning if 6' is enough distance for social distancing?!  Nobody knows and this is just irresponsible journalism...  I have also witnessed a fair number of seniors trying to use masks when these same seniors are already struggling to get enough wind to carry on a conversation or to maintain enough stamina to finish a common physical task.  Our media is going to have a field day scaring people this fall season with suggesting a second wave of this virus in on the horizon and it will certainly be worse than the first...  We just don't know...  If you wanna wear a mask and feel more secure with a mask, by all means wear one.  If you are behind a mask, insulated from me so to speak, why would you care if I did or did not wear a mask?

The main reason I wear a mask are three reasons:

1. The average person touches their face at least 16 times an hour. And it's a given that the best mode of ingress of a virus is through the mouth, nose, and eyes. The way I see it if I my hands make contact with a contaminated surface, my mask will act as a barrier for at least my mouth and nose. If you don't believe this wear a mask and you will be amazed at how many times you touch your face.

2. True the mask may not protect you from being contaminated by others, but if you are an asymptomatic carrier (remember you can walk around for at least 14 days with no symptoms) you can respirate contaminated virus droplets by just breathing near someone or sneezing without a mask. A mask will reduce that possibility. With allergy season upon us there will be a lot of sneezing now. A sneeze can carry water droplets up to 26 1/2 feet and the vapor will linger in the air up to 10 minutes.

3. I have parents that live with my on my property that are in their mid 80's and everytime they get the common flu they have issues. One of them was hospitalized a couple of years ago with the flu. I'll be damned if I'm going to bring the virus home to them.

As far as scientific study links about the mask here ya go:

For every 2 studies that say one thing there are 2 other stating something different.   W.H.O. just flopped on it again....but who cares what they think.

Hopefully this crap will have little effect on fishing and associated travel soon.

We all hope this crap will be over soon! Even those of us that some of you think are going overboard. We are all in this boat together and I sure as hell am not enjoying it. Was all set to go on nice fishing vaca to Canada or New England but that's shot!

Feels like a bad dream I can't get out of. Anybody else? Makes me wonder what else could have happened as in a nuclear power plant melt down or Yellowstone blowing its top that would have a similar devastating effect.

The following is not directed to anyone here in particular and I hope it doesn't raise any hackles. But I believe it makes the point about the mask very succinct.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh go fish with your masks. LOL

menards is loosing out on all my materials bought for my business.  if they are going to spit on freedom ill shop elsewhere. same goes for everywhere else forcing their opinions on everyone.

You're spot on, that's why they're so many protesting political leaders like that one in Mich.. She's trying to impress someone into making her a running mate. I do have a box of N95, bought at auction years back, and have been wearing one sometimes. BUT, I wear it because I choose to not because some politician told me to.

If I decided not to wear one in a store and they told me I had to, all they would see is my butt out the door. THey can make their own rules that's ok with me but no one tells me what to do.

Little humor. I was told fishermen should wear a mask and gloves fishing, that way if they are a slient carrier and catch/release one, the next guy who caught or ate it won't get it

Cass Cty has been 3rd in confirmed cases in Indiana for maybe a month or so now. It shot up to that spot when almost half of Tysons workers tested positive, Tysons is located just outside city limits of Logansport. I live right in the middle of Logansport .

Friday I ate at KFC, saw 1 couple come in wearing a mask while there, employees wearing mask/gloves. Then went to Walmart and maybe 1/4 of the people where wearing mask, a week or 2 ago only a handful wasn't wearing mask most employees wearing. ALso went to Home Depot and seen only 3 customers wearing a mask. 2-3 weeks ago I went to 3 auto parts stores all employees where wearing mask, went to those 3 again Monday and no employees where wearing mask. Monday Bar and Grill"s where aloud to open in Logan, thursday went to my favorite bar and no one was wearing a mask, played pool for about 3 hours and still no one came in wearing a mask.

Don't know about other counties but this is what I've seen in Cass Cty, freedom to wear or not wear.

So far Cass Cty has had only 7 deaths out of about 1,600 confirmed cases, Cass is 37th in deaths and 3rd in confirmed cases according to this link. https://www.bing.com/search?q=age+breakdown+of+coronavirus+deaths&qs=LS&pq=age+brea&sc=8-8&cvid=627A0B8DB02141A380B70D221CC1D04F&FORM=QBRE&sp=1

With all this said I still have the right to choose if and when I will put on a mask, that's called freedom and no dictator politician is gona order me. If others do not like it then I suggest moving away from non mask wearing people or wear a full face cartridge type gas mask that fits tight around your face, I have one of those too.

1,958 deaths in Indiana from the virus so far Charley.

13 new deaths in the last roughly 10 days.

34,212 total positives. Sure testing is up, but most people don't ask for a test unless they are feeling ill.

https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/2393.htm

In about 10 days we will see the spike from Memorial Day Weekend because people like you were whining about their freedom taken away because they were asked to keep their distance, and wear a mask to keep from infecting others if they're infected, but don't know it.

Jeeze what is so difficult about that? It's not like you have to wear the mask at home or out fishing. And it's not like you can't leave home.

Our grandparents when through a depression and two world wars, and you're whining about following a few simple guidelines.

Ever enlist in the military? I found out how much freedom I really had in basic training with three DI's screaming at me on three 8 hour shifts, all my hair shaved off, no privacy, can't do anything without permission, and surrounded by an 8 foot fence with barbed wire on top, and guards. Wah, wah, wah. Cry me a river about your loss of freedom.

I guess you just like to start arguing with me Taxid, you're carp gets old so here's both barrels right back at you Cecil.

You can post your opinion all over this thread and thats ok. I make my first comment on this 3 page thread and your mouth starts blabbing at me. I didn't mention you or make comments about your post so back off pal!

Its great you was in the military so tks, what war zone or military action did you fight in for Americas freedom? Cutting your hair off, no privacy, ask for permission, etc. sound like a Mississippi of crying to me and also reminds me of my daily experiences as a kid growing up at home in the 50-60's. I can bet why you are the way you are, growing up in the 50-60-70's must have been tuff with the name Cecil.

No crying here. Just telling you it was a an eye opener to realize how much freedom I had at home. Anyone whose been to basic here can relate. The first day there many of us were thinking "What the **** was I thinking to sign up for this?" And keep in mind many of the ones that are in most danger from Covid -19 right now served without a choice. They were drafted to Vietnam. So at least think about them when you go out and potentially spread the virus because you don't want wear a mask.

You have no idea how much hell I paid for having the name Cecil. :rotflol: Didn't help there was a Cecil cartoon (Cecil and Beany) "Help Cecil help!" My twin got it to with "Hey where's Beany?"  ;D And I moved from school to school almost on a yearly basis due to my dad being in the military. (Attended 4 high schools). But no whining on that as it made me tough. Think "A boy names Sue" -- Johnny Cash. I got to the point I could whip anybody's *** even bigger than me. Learned real fast to just keep swinging and ducking and don't let the big guy get you on the ground.

Sure you're entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.  ;D

As far as serving in a war zone I missed Desert storm by 20 minutes a few days after I got married.  But I fail to see the relevance.

I had a friend who thinks he had it too. Last night played pool with a bud of mine he said he thinks he had it back in Jan. He ended up in the Hospital deathly sick and they couldn't pin point what it was. I think he said they treated it like the flu with pneumonia and he made it thru.

I'm like you in going to the Dr. or Hosp, in 2013 found out I had a stroke. If my 80 yr old mom hadn't argued with to go to the hospital I wouldn't have. Some run to the Dr. at first sign of a runny nose, not us.

You said,  socialism slowly infect and ruin this great country of ours. That's spot on, people like AOC and the Sqad are trying to take our great country down and make it a Communist State, it'll never happen as long as true Americans have their guns and will power to fight to keep our Freedom.

Yep me too, I'll be fishin in the mourn looking to catch anything, bass crappie perch gills, that will run into my hook. If not I'll just relax and enjoy the peaceful waters
