Title: How's everyone doing this year?
Post by: FishinNY on Sep 02, 2014, 05:27 AM
Now that the warm water is starting to cool off, I've been fishing hard for the northerns. Been finding some smaller fish in 10-12 fow. Have yet to hook up with a decent sized fish. Just curious what's working for you guys? I've been using big sub surface jerk/ glide baits and big giant killer spinners.

My year has been , good on trout fishing except for all the rain holding me back some , Walleye numbers have been above my average , did a lot more jigging this year

Good to hear. The weather has certainly made it tough.

The pike I have been getting lately are all on live bait ( harnesses or small injured gills).  For me this year the pike were hitting the bodybaits/ spinners earlier in the summer/late spring, but as of late no artificial bait has worked. Working the weed lines as usual hoping for a surprise walleye!!

Had two on big spinners sunday. Boated one and lost one that was a decent fish. Just slow rolling the weed edges like you are the live bait. Can't wait for these temps to drop!

Still no signs of the bigger fish. Our water temps are now ranging from 58-64 degrees. Would think they would be coming into the shallower water to feed but have not seen it yet. Hope it turns around soon. I refuse to troll. :-\

Heading to Delta lake this weekend to give it a whirl.  Will be throwing big spinners.   gonna start with weeds in about 10-12 feet.

They're in there. Just deep yet. If you're going this weekend, you will need to look for deep weed beds that are still green. The warmer temps this week will not have drawn the bigger fish in yet. Your other option is to find cold springs. If the bait fish are balled up around them, the pike aren't far off.

True.  Went out  last nite.  4 boats in our area alone.   Casting, casting.  No one caught a thing.

This warm front isn't going to help them go shallow! >:(
