yea get the Shimano Torium 20 it has a 6:2:1 ratio.its good for when you want to check bait .the only down side is with big fish tis tough cranking them in.you saw it in action with me .i would also consider getting a pole made like the one i just got .the acid wrap.the reel is 190 and pole would be some where around 200.seth the mate on the boat made mine cant wait to use it.
sorry bout the odder post :whistling:  :rotflol:

Ricky, you might want to think more about a 6-1/2 or 7 foot rod. Keeps your line away from the boat a little more and gives you a greater arc if you jig, which moves the jig a little more. I've got an old 7' heavy action Slammer that I used for a lot of years and it worked out fine. A 330 gti would give you more line capacity. They're slow, but a lot of guys use them.

I just picked up the Okuma Solterra SLR-15 CS. High speed, 6:1, lever drag and high line capacity on Custom M/H Trevala rod. Only weights 1.5lbs and very tough reel. You can fish for cod to Tuna with this setup, especially good for butterfly jigging down deep.

Reel goes for around $135, the rod is preference but I would get atleast 6'6 in length.

Many people use them, but level winds reel are not the best choice for salt water, they just don't hold up. Another thing to keep in mind is that Penn is not the company that it once was, I lost count, but I think they are on their 4 or 5 owner and they have had some big production problems. I know many people are married to the brand and I was years ago, but they don't have the quality that they once did and I hope that they get it back. In the mean time I would stay away from them. I have brought some 40+lb cod up with my Shimano Torium and they are smooth, all the way up. I am out guiding and testing lots of gear and I am still waiting for  Penn to be the GREAT company they where.
