Must be a friend of yours Bob.
Knows you run and needed to get up.
I'm having trouble getting on MFF using Microsoft Edge.
iPhone and Firefox no problem.
Any others having this problem?
-
Nah, iPad has no issues. Ditch the Microsoft crap.
Rg
-
I agree, Edge is the issue.
That browser is hot garbage.
-
I'm sure that it's Edge.
But it's also this site as this site is the only one I cannot access using Edge.
Gets me into the first page and then hangs.
Have to close Edge and reopen to go elsewhere.
But no other websites do this in Edge.
So it's either something in MFF that Edge doesn't like, or the reverse.
I can use firefox to access.
It's what I'm doing now.
-
Fixed it!
Cleared the browser totally.
Reboot.
And everything is good again.
Faster too.
-
I work in IT support, and every time someone has an issue with a browser, it seems like it is Edge. Or IE, but that was more on windows 7.
Chrome, Firefox, and Safari seem to have far fewer issues. I think it’s because IE, and Edge are essentially viruses on the Windows OS. You can’t get rid of them when you delete them, they re-install, just like a virus.
-
That's why I switched to the iPad and IOS. I have a monster laptop but it never sees the internet. It's only for pictures music and movies.

Just got done shoveling and snowblowing the drive, walk, and stairs.
5 minutes later...…………………….YUP...………………..snowplow came through.
Grrrrrr………
I'm not going back out there to shovel that again.
not for an hour at least
-
Nothing to shovel or plow here. Everything melted off the roads and driveways yesterday. I kind of like having the plow truck in the driveway. Mine always gets done first and last👍
Rg
-
got 2 more inches overnight
-
Nothing but mud puddles left around here. I'd rather have snow.

Sometimes I just don't know you anymore.
Every day it doesn't snow is one day closer to wearing shorts and T-shirts to fish.

A little something from the cold side

Take that junk over to that "other" site where it belongs.

Nice size perch SM...

Mac, here is a fun subject to discuss... I want to put an I-Pilot equipped trolling motor on my boat and upgrade my sonar to something with the Link that will let me operate the trolling motor. I want to use it to troll/autopilot in conjunction with my 4 stroke kicker. I think you use this, Mac? What is this going to cost me? I need it to last all day (two days off grid if possible) My boat is 21 feet and about 4000lbs, so I am thinking a 24v with 80lbs of thrust is good enough?

Should I lay down some AstroTurf first next time? Sorry, just had to ;D
Really though, it’s awfully quiet on this board, do we not have as many southern members or does the winter really slow down the fishing in the subtropical zone.

Not enough with 24v IMHO
I use a 24 on my 1650 Lund Rebel XL
Go with 36v
You will be far happier.
And get the largest batteries you can fit.
Better yet, go even larger and make them fit!!!
And get the minn Kota onboard charger for them - its the best for the batteries. Not cheap, but neither is smoking a set of deep cycle batteries cause the charger took a dump.

In 2.5 yrs there will be one more southern member.

Yea, it slows down here in the winter.
Start a thread
I’ll read it
And give you crap if I disagree

Well, that adds a grand or more to the setup, that's for sure. But I kind of knew that would be the case.

Geoff - it's like everything.
You know!
If you really want to do this right...………
(remember our kicker discussions?)
I have FOUR deep cycle batteries wired in series parallel feeding 24v to mine to get the duration on the water.
I originally had all 4 up front but it was too much weight.
Last year I moved 2 to the stern and it rode better.
I have a 3 bank charger from Lund handling the starting battery and the original 2 deep cycle batteries.
Then I had another I bought go bad and smoke my 2nd set of deep cycles.
So I had to buy 2 more and was convinced by others to go with the Minn Kota 2 bank to avoid anymore battery destruction.
I have a Honda 8hp 4-stroke kicker that does most of the work.
But I troll on Erie.
The wind and the waves really make that Minn Kota work.
I know others say they go all day, but they are on inland lakes.
The ipilot isn't constantly adjusting.
When it's glass out on Erie, I can go 2 days.
But when it's rough and windy, I need all 4 batteries just to get 6-7 hrs of trolling.
When I move to Florida in 2 yrs I will be setting up a pontoon with one.
I'm looking at these -

And you can bet I'll have a Minn Kota charger too.
Here is my setup now -

Mac, what model trolling motor do you have? And is it worth it to make sure I get the I-pilot with link and a compatible head unit or just skip the link setup? I don't exactly need a new sonar but if it's worth it I will upgrade that at the same time.

We have a minkota with ipilot that does not link with the fish finder. It would be nice to have, but you can still set and record routes with just the remote.

It looks like after all is said and done, the I-link is the least of the expense, so I guess I will get it. My next question is regarding the battery charger... when you wire 2 batteries in parallel, does that use a single bank of the charger or do you want a bank for each battery? Like if I get a 36v and want the run time, do I wire 6 batteries and have a 3 bank charger or is that a 6 bank charger (probably two 3 bank chargers)?
I really can't imagine dealing with 6 deep cycles and one cranking battery... that's going to be close to 900 lbs of batteries alone and holy cow, lotta money.

yup - lots of weight.
You can charge 2 batteries in parallel with one charger but it's best to use 2 chargers, or a charger's 2 independent "banks".
The chargers are the least contributing factor to the weight anyways.
My suggestion is to go with the 36 VDC motor and 3 of the largest batteries you can fit someplace on the boat.
And then see how this works before you add another 3 batteries.
Get a decent 3 bank charger with a quick turn around on charge time.
Like this Minn Kota 3-bank 15 amp unit -
https://minnkotamotors.johnsonoutdoors.com/battery-chargers/board-precision-chargers?id=13976 (https://minnkotamotors.johnsonoutdoors.com/battery-chargers/board-precision-chargers?id=13976)
This will allow you to go in and recharge at lunch or mid day.
If it takes all night to recharge............
I went through all of this.
With my trips up north, we came in for lunch and a dinner.
We fished early morning till lunch, another quick trip out in the afternoon and then a 3rd after dinner for the nigh bite.
The higher amp charger allowed me grab a quick charge and keep fishing.
Use your kick as much as possible.
Use the electric to steer.
With higher winds and waves, this means more out of the electric.
So try to troll with the winds and waves as much as possible.
I know - sometimes the fish want things pulled against the wind and waves, but you know what I mean.
Use your kicker to do the majority of the work.
I don't have link.
Just ipilot.
But I use Lowrance, so link won't hook up anyway.
However, when I go down to Florida I might consider this because of the greater amount of contour fishing maybe.
We'll see.
On open water I simply feel link is not needed.
But that's me.
Others might feel different.
-
I have a terova with ipilot
When I go to Florida I will get a ulterra
I'm getting older and softer you know.

That's a good plan. I have two dedicated, pre-wired locations that will take group 34 size batteries. The 3rd I will find a way to put in the forward locker.

Beautiful pic Raquette, thanks for sharing :) there have been some amazing sunsets lately ;)

Really dead here lately on MFF.
Always at this time of year.
Been fighting cold/flu for the past week or more.
Fever finally broke over night.
Still major congested and head is loaded up.
Lots of room up there for it to rattle around. lol
Would really like to get some steelhead fishing in.
This weekend looks like major snow is coming so I'll probably use it to make sure this thing I have/had is gone for good.
Do have to make up last Friday's bowling though.
Because of the thing, I (we) didn't go.
Maybe Saturday afternoon.
What's happening out there guys?

Miss my boat but still fishing.
Hope you feel better soon Mac..

Dom, looks like you are on the board anyway for 2019. Hope everything heals for you and your son
Mac, feel better.
I'm on a new arthritis med for 6 weeks and it hasn't worked. My left hand/fingers and shoulder joints are a mess so I usually pass the winter by playing some guitar but that's out for now. Worst part is I can't drink alcoholic beverages with the med :-\
My son wants to do some steelhead fishing at some point so I just got some 1/8 oz jig heads to tie some marabou jigs so that should keep me busy for a bit.
Snow is on its way it seems.
-
Nice finger surgery Dom.
Time to heal.
The kid too.
Sorry to hear about the lack of alkeehawl Bart.
See guys.
There is stuff to post in the off season.

Jeez Dom glad all is on the mend , tonsils out when your older can be a bear and for god sakes Dom be careful , watch rubbing your wood the wrong way 😉
-
Sorry to read many of you are dealing with sickness and other medical issues. Mac Attack may you be over the flu/cold before to long. Raquettedacker may your son and you have fast recoveries. Bartman44 may your doctor find a medication that helps with the arthritis and allows you to drink adult beverages. to all in the path of this weekend's snow storm may all of you suffer no major problems from it.

Good Lord! It's like you 'ol fellas are falling apart. Hope your all feel better soon. ;D

Bart hope the arthritis is felling better now..
My kids felling better and ready to get back to long island..
Bad news yesterday. Had truck inspected and he said its the last time because the frame is shot.. You would think they would last longer than 14 years...
Only 115k on it.... Stinking NY salty roads...

My son Chris did one a few years back in the backyard under a 6 gallon plastic bucket.
Never much cared for this "skeleton" look myself, but he likes it.
Each to their own.
To me, they look like something you would find in the desert.

Not at all Dom. Great catch. That's some interesting transportation you have there. No shortage of ice this year.
-
Thanks Bart. Not mine i wish. Buddy has almost 17 grand into that thing. Also has a huge 4 way plow for it..
-
Jethro nice photos best to you the remainder of this season.
Raquettedacker nice to have a friend with top-end transportation. How did the Euro-mounts you posted photos of in process turn out.
Mac Attack hope you and your son learned things that will improve your rod building.
Steve

I learned a little bit.
Now I'm going to build some rods.
Jeff has all the equipment.
At the show I bought ten (10), 2pc graphite 6.5' spinning rod blanks.
I also bought some eye kits, graphite reel seats, foam handles, etc.
I learned how to wrap guides today.
I have been You Tubing it since I got home.
Watched it done in a few seminars there, and today Jeff helped me.
Got serious eye strain today.
Enough to give me a headache.
So I ordered a head gear magnifying glass setup.
$10 on amazon with free shipping.
Will be here Tuesday.
So I will start on these 10 rods then.
No rush.
A few will be for gifts.
The rest I'll sell.
They won't be $200+ rods when I finish.
But they won't be $40-50 Cabela specials either.
I won't be doing anything fancy, like crazy wrap patterns.
Just simple black color-fast thread.
Even the handles are simple black EVO foam.
They will be good general purpose spinning rods.
I'll post pics when I get a few done.
Not sure what I'll sell them for.
I'm sure I will have a bit of time in each but I'll discount my time significantly.
We'll see.
I'm looking for an inside hobby for retirement that maybe I can make a few dollars at to put fuel in the boat and bait on the hook.
I may enjoy it, or not.
We'll see.
Mac
-
Been there.....done that.......mostly built my arsenal of equipment. Sold a few, but not many people will fork over what a custom rod is really worth. If you're looking for a hobby, keep it a hobby. Never turn a hobby you enjoy into a business.
I bought a lot of my blanks from one particular guy on eBay. They were very reasonable and very high quality.
Rg
-
Mac Attack have fun with the rod building. Nice that your son and you have some common intrests.

Not going to do it for money Bob
But if I can sell a few here and there to offset some of the costs.......

MacAttack is building rods hard?

MacAttack is building rods hard?
Nope.
Not at all.
Go to this website and check out the simple starter kits.
And also look at the basic winding kit they sell.
There's also tons of videos on each product page showing how to use it, etc.
https://www.mudhole.com/ (https://www.mudhole.com/)
I'm not pushing that company as there are others.
But Mudhole does make it easy.
Here's a few other links on thread wrapping that my son Jeff shared with me that really show how easy it is.
The guy is using a power wrapper, but as I mentioned above, the CRB hand wrapper for only $43 works great.

https://youtu.be/VoyJOdbyhpU (https://youtu.be/VoyJOdbyhpU)
For now, I'm doing simple one thread wraps on my rods.
I don't have any interested in all the crazy cool wraps.
And forget about the weaves - that's just nutz.
Have fun.
Keep us posted on how you end up.
Here's a link to the gear do it yourself thread on MFF.

Hey Bob - I know you're prowling out there buddy - can you please speak to Scott about getting my screen name changed back to "Mac".
He took it from Attack to Mac Attack (my boat name) a couple years back.
Gotta be a way.
I would think.

Man that looks like fun, making your own rods. And maybe cost effective at some point? Especially for idiots like me that seem to lose a rod overboard every so often.
Time to come back to MFF!
Hey Mac, hows that seat base working out! I'd love to get two for the main helm seats in my boat! Be great for me on the salt. My boat can take more than my bones can!
Here's a fun season opener convo.. what do you guys like for track systems? I want to do a big upgrade to some 48" tracks on each gunwale. I run Penn riggers now but I'm thinking of the big John's when I eventually go electric. I love being able to lift the boom upwards... do any other riggers do that I should consider? Anyway, for the tracks I need something good for both applications.

Send him a message.
I did last year.
He changed it from Attack to Mac Attack.
