Interesting meeting last night, DEC handled all the questions very diplomatically  ;)

For sure. I think he chose his words cautiously because he was being recorded.

It sounds like we need to catch more walleyes for the good of the lake. Not a bad problem!

Question for all the OL trollers: what do you recommend for rods and reels for leadcore?
Thanks!

I troll lead alot on Erie we use 9' okuma standard lead core rods and okuma magna pro line counters size 30 for my lead and size 20 for braid there not that expensive and have worked great for us they also offer higher end stuff , but I'm happy with ours been using same ones for more than 10 years , just what I use

I have a couple of those Okuma reels and they work well. I have some Cabelas line counter reels and the line counters suck!

I run cheap eagle claw 9’ poles.

My lead rods are 6.5’ meds, leadcore is 17# mason with 15’ leader of 8# fireline
1 reel is a an old triton with 8 colors other is Daiwa with 10 colors ,
My board rods are mr walleye 8.5’ with Daiwa sealine  17s with 8#fire line
Looks like I’ll be chasing perch somewhere on the opener ,

Yep, we usually throw most of our catches back, but guess we'll start keeping more now  8)

I have a couple of those Okuma reels and they work well.
All I run is okuma's...
I've bought other brands and found that the line counters are awful..
Best ice found (for me) is the okumas...
I have 30's for big erie leadcore rods...
20's for my snapweight/dipsy rods and 2 10's for my 5 color lead rods
