SPRING WHITEFISH

(1/2) > >>

jacksmelt:
EVERY SPRING WHEN THE SEASON OPENS APR. 1 ME AND MY BROTHER FISH IN THE MOUTH OF A RIVER WHERE IT DUMPS INTO A LOCAL POND. WE ANCHOR ON THE ICE AND FISH ON THE EDGE OF THE ICE FOR WHITEFISH  JIGGING WITH PIMPLES TIPPED WITH WORMS. THE ACTION CAN BE HOT WHEN A SCHOOL COMES IN. SOMETIMES BOATING 15 TO 20 IN 1/2 HR. ALSO WE CATCH TROUT + LANDLOCK SALMON BUT WE RELEASE THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE SO SKINNY THIS TIME OF YEAR. ANY OF YOU NORTHERN BOYS DO ANY SIMILAR FISHING FOR SPRING WHITEFISH? JUST CURIOUS IF THIS IS A UNIQUE THING THAT ONLY OCCURS IN N.MAINE?

Bigfish57:
hehe I was waiting for you to start this forum off ;)

jacksmelt:
SOMEONE HAD TO DO IT. 1ST DAY NO LUCK WATER WAS TO HIGH. WILL TRY AGAIN LATER IN THE WEEK.

TroutFishingBear:
I used to catch the big ones in the fall when they spawned in creeks that dumped into the colorado. I could get one every cast easily.

buzzbomb:
We get them in Last Mountain Lake in Sask. when the season opens in May.  up to 10 or 12 #and they fight like crazy.  they're a collateral catch while I'm jigging for walleyes.
