how big was the largest rainbow/steelhead you've ever landed ???
been steelheading 15 years and 36" -17 lb'er is the best iv'e been able to do
iv'e hooked bigger ones but never landed them
-
my best steelhead weighed just over 22 lbs, it took over a 1/2 hour and a few hundred yards downstream before i landed it,never seen the fish until i got it near the bank, the hook was barely hanging on by the skin of the fishes lip and i coulnt beach it ,the steam bank was a couple feet high, when i tried to grab the fish the hook came loose but i was able to get my arms around it and wrestle it up onto the bank ;)

My best rainbow was a 35", 17 pounder from the Colorado River near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. I caught it and released it on a drifted nightcrawler. I caught it in January, when ice banks the size of VWs were floating down the river.

33" C&R Rainbow trout caught in the Naknek river in southwest Alaska on a egg suckin' leech. Steelhead was a 24 lb. fish, (no measurment) C&R caught in the Hoh river in Western Washington state on a hot shot plug. What a great steelhead river!

22" bow on a cotton cordell crankbait in one nasty lookin stream high muddy and lots of pressure
-
The biggest steelhead i ever caught was 13 pounds out of the buskin river on kodiak. I have actually caught more 10 plus pound rainbows than steelhead. The biggest rainbow for me is about a tie, i caught a 36 inch 18 pounder out of the Naknek and and 18 pound 32 incher out of the kenai, both fly fishing. Caught the naknek fish on a articulated flesh fly and the kenai fish on a trout bead, once again rainbows not steelhead! There is nothing like fishing for rainbows with an 8 weight rod ;D. In fact i am heading to the naknek again this fall and guarentee i will have some great photos of some 10 pound plus bows.

My biggest trout out of a lake besides a mackinaw is a 12 pound, 33" rainbow caught on an excalibur suspending fat free shad in citrus shad color, while fishing for walleyes. Fought for almost ten minutes before I landed him and released him. Beautiful hook jawed male.
