:'( heard of a 12 ft sturgeon found dead on the east side of the hudson river in new baltimore... :o

that is VERY possible, i have seen a lot of them rolling from cementon
to about stuyvesant,i think feds were stocking them at about 6ft??

ALSO NOTE-there are TWO types of sturgeon in the hudson river
1- the big one the atlantic sturgeon
2-the shortnose sturgeon[ i caught them when fishing for shad by green island and fed dam]
as far as i know you cannot keep them??

sturegon in the hudson......both types are endangered....the incredible one...well he's one of a kind... :laugh: ...

There are several species in NYS. Twelve foot seems large for any of these species, but not impossible. They stock the smaller species in Oneida Lake and there regularly being caught six feet and over. That's a far cry from twelve feet, but still a huge fresh water fish.
