Washagami/Insect Lake Report
« on: Jul 18, 2006, 07:13 PM »
Went to Lake Washagami near Sudbury with some nonfishing friends (atleast not diehards). Fishing just plain s&cked. Stunted smallies and stunted rockbass. They were occasionally aggresive, but 8in smallies is not my idea of a good time, especially after flying to Canada.

Some nextdoor neighbors turned out to be avid backwoods fisherman. They pittied me and offered to take me to Insect Lake to go Musky fishing on my last night, about a 20 min. ATV trip into the bush, towing jonboats. Quite a little adventure, including going over a beaver dam and through plenty of water.

We fished from just before sunset until just about dark. They spotted some muskies about 10ft down in 20-30ft. Fished a variety of cranks, spinners, etc. My friend raised a fish on pike-shaped lure, so I tied on one of mine--a Salmo model. Sure enough, got hit hard by this 8lber. Only fish of the night. I was psyched. Nothing big, but the first musky I actually got in the boat.
