Trout Heritage Day
« on: Mar 29, 2009, 10:13 AM »
Just thought I'd toss this one out there.

VA's trout heritage day is Saturday April 4th this year.    This means that some of the major stocked trout streams are closed 5 days prior to the first Saturday in April.     This gives the states trout hatcheries time to stock these streams for the "opener".
Anglers have a great chance of catching trout, with some potentially trophy sized trout being caught every year.    Most of the hatcheries around here will be putting out a larger load of trout, to these designated streams, with some larger trout mixed into the loads (with several of them being citation size).
The state also will open up two of its fee fishing streams, both of which will have been heavily pre-stocked with trout.     The fee area's cost $6/50 a day, but are also stocked every other weekday (Monday Wednesday Friday) from the first Saturday in April to the last day in September.      All that is required is the daily fee area permitt (available at any fishing licence sales place or on line) and a regular fishing licence, no trout stamp is required.      free camping and public restrooms are also available at both fee sites along with a concessionaire stand that sells licences, food, snack, and limited fishing tackle/bait.
Just thought Id toss a reminder out to any Virginians on here, or people from neighboring states that want to travel.
If I didn't have to work again next weekend Id be out on one of the streams.
