Believe that last years doe tags expired on August 31 just like the hunting licenses do. So you would need new tags for this special hunt.

it's a dumb idea and i'll tell you why...you can't see well leaves  haven't  fallen, ticks are at the highest level of the year and  your going to educate every deer in the woods and totally screw bow season up....and  you know  how many  40 lb  deer will be  shot????  another great move  by the state of  new york without  considering talking to  the hunters ..... sorry this  is  stupid  ....

I like the original southern bow date of 10/15 better than the 10/1 date too .... don't get me started on the ticks ... early in July I had the China virus and lyme disease at the same time, with a case of Bell's Palsy thrown in as a result of having both of those things.  Fortunately none of the symptoms were severe and I'm back to normal now (well, as normal as I can be anyway - haha).  The fatigue was awful though .....

September is way too early and way too warm to start shooting deer. I typically wait till the weekend around 10/15 to start bowhunting for that reason. If it helps entice young people to start hunting I guess its OK but I'm going to continue to wait till mid-Oct before I start. You have to be careful handling deer meat when its 70° or 80°.
